Imagine all of your favorite shirts being ruined by embarrassing underarm sweat. Many people suffer from this embarrassing situation and can spend thousands of dollars on buying products and new clothes to cover up their condition.
We have found an ever lasting solution to stop embarrassment immediately! FDA approved miraDry uses non-invasive delivery of energy to the underarm to eliminate the sweat glands so that you’ll never have to worry about excessive sweat again. Once sweat glands are removed, they will no longer resurface, and miraDry has been known to show an 82 percent average sweat reduction at a 12 month checkpoint.
With a simple machine (that’s the size of a hand), the miraDry treatment simply raises the energy and goes in and drys out the sweat along with deleting the sweat gland.
For two treatments miraDry can cost up to $3,000, but will save thousands as well as prevent you from ever having to throw away your favorite shirts or dresses again. We caught up with Carolyn I. Jacob, M.D., founder and medical director of Chicago Cosmetic Surgery and Dermatology, to get all of the details on miraDry.
FACTIO MAGAZINE: Tell us about all of the benefits of miraDry?
Carolyn I. Jacob: The miraDry technology is the only non-invasive device specifically designed and FDA approved to provide a lasting treatment for underarm sweat. It eliminates the sweat glands and once sweat glands are destroyed they do not grow back.
Having a lasting, non-invasive solution is important because many people suffer from excessive and bothersome underarm sweating, which has a significant impact on their lives, from how they approach social and professional situations to things as basic as their clothing choices.
miraDry is a cost-effective and proven treatment. More than 7,000 miraDry procedures have been performed to date across the US, Asia, and Canada and has an excellent safety and efficacy record.
FM: How long does the process take?
CIJ: Typically two treatments performed three months apart are required to maximize the results. The initial treatment takes about 90 minutes as we have consents to fill out, measuring of the axillary vaults, and explanation of the procedure. The second takes about 60 minutes.
FM: Does miraDry hurt? What are the side effects?
CIJ: Almost all patients will experience: some swelling in their underarm (1-8 weeks); altered sensation in the skin and around the treatment area (up to a few months); soreness, discomfort, or tenderness of the treated area (2-3 weeks); redness from the device suction (few days); temporary bumps or lumpiness in the underarm (4-6 weeks); and patients may also experience some degree of hair loss. Immediately following the procedure, physicians will likely recommend mild pain medication and ice for a few days to minimize the discomfort.
FM: How many treatments does a person have to have before the gland is completely removed?
CIJ: Two procedures spaced three months apart are required to maximize the results.
FM: How long does it take to heal?
CIJ: Patients should be able to return to work on the same day, and can typically resume exercise within several days. Some localized soreness or swelling is normal, which typically clears within a few weeks.
FM: After miraDry, will the patient ever sweat in that area again?
CIJ: miraDry heats and eliminates the sweat glands and once sweat glands are destroyed they do not grow back. Based on a recent study, patients treated with the miraDry procedure experienced an 82 percent average sweat reduction. The study also demonstrated patient satisfaction and efficacy of more than 90 percent.
