Rhode Resort is a burgeoning new resort-wear line, capturing the quintessential relaxed-bohemian vibe perfect for summering in the chicest and sleepiest of resort towns. Capturing the “unhurried way of life” through their line–Phoebe Vickers (an accomplished photographer) and Purna Khatau (a former women’s wear buyer for Harvey Nichols Dubai) came up with the concept of a luxe vacation wardrobe over cocktails in Goa, naturally. We caught up with designer Purna Khatau to learn more about the collection, how they’re inspired and her most memorable career moment.

FACTIO MAGAZINE: Where do you live? What do you love about it?
PURNA KHATAU: I live between Los Angeles and Bombay. I love LA because it’s so easy to escape into nature. Bombay, is great for its non-stop hustle and bustle!

FM: When did you realize you wanted to be a fashion designer?
PK: I have always had a passion for everything fashion and after spending many years on the buying side, I decided to pursue the larger dream of launching my own line.

FM: Describe your design aesthetic.
PK: Chic, easy and playful.

FM: Tell us about your latest collection and the inspiration process behind it.
PK: Our last collection was inspired by the beaches and parties of Goa – unbounded in spirit.

FM: How are you inspired?
PK: I feel most inspired by nature.

FM: How does your city inspire you?
PK: Both cities being coastal have a relaxed, laid back vibe, that lends itself to the essence of Rhode Resort.

FM: What is it like when you spot someone on the street wearing your designs?
PK: It’s really exciting to see people loving the clothes and wearing them–especially seeing how people put their own spin on it by mixing and matching.

FM: What has been your most memorable career moment?
PK: Seeing Beyonce wearing our clothes top to toe- the Queen Bey stamp of approval!
