Radisson Blu Aqua Hotel became the premiere spot where philanthropists gathered on Saturday, April 26th, as nearly 800 guests helped raise a staggering $3.1 million for the fight against cancer. The 8th annual gala has become the crème de la crème of fundraising events, featuring Walgreen Co. as a presenting sponsor. Guests enjoyed a touching performance by Keith Urban, the four-time GRAMMY Award winner, judge on American Idol and husband to Oscar winning actress Nicole Kidman. But, one of the best parts of the night goes to the high-energy auction which helped raise $3.1 million for cancer research with featured items like a 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class that went for $42,000 donated by Mercedes-Benz Chicagoland Dealers, a Keith Urban tour package for $33,000 donated by the star and Swisse Wellness inc., and last but not least, a beautiful 18k white gold Tiffany bangle accented with diamonds and stunning diamond and platinum earrings donated by Tiffany and Co. that went to a lucky lady for $37,000.
“For the many people who turn to us for support at a time of need, we couldn’t be more appreciative of tonight’s record-breaking generosity. The money raised at the Discovery Ball will help us address the cancer burden with a comprehensive approach of prevention, research, patient care and advocacy,” said Nancy Yaw, executive vice president, Lakeshore Division of the American Cancer Society.
Corporate support is so important to the fundraising efforts of the American Cancer Society and Motorola Solutions, Inc. was recognized for their leadership in fundraising support (the company has helped secure over $1.3 million for the charity). Other important corporate support from sponsors include The Boeing Company, Hewlett Packard and United Airlines, as well as, JPMorgan Chase & Co., who came on board as Diamond Sponsors.
