The Tory Burch Pre-Fall 2013 collection’s inspiration comes from the designer’s cherished officer’s jacket owned by her mother. Burch’s interpretation of that jacket brings a military silhouette that both contrasts with and complements the long, ladylike chiffon dresses. In this collection, Burch plays with extensive embroidery, beading and print to produce outstanding ethnic patterns. She brings her client on a visual excursion to Asia, with her gorgeous, detailed and colorful Mongolian and Cambodian-inspired prints, as well as with her calf-grazing dresses and skirts. By concealing her models’ bodies, revealing their curves only through the contours of fabric, Burch’s Pre-Fall 2013 collection offers a demure but classic attitude for multiple generations of women. As for the accessories, they match the rest of the collection. The bags and the jewelry are full of graphics and ethnic patterns. The earrings and necklaces rely on a beading basis, while clutches mix modern big-chained handles with more traditional shapes. -by Charlaine Grosse
