As an editor, I’m always looking at ways to upgrade my life, whether I’m changing up my gadgets for the latest must-have or refreshing my home décor to take on a new season.

We recently partnered with Dyson where they want us to reflect on refreshing upgrades we’re making in our lives. For this post, I bring you my latest refreshers on the constant path of renovating and re-decorating a historic Craftsman Bungalow in Chicago.

I moved to this home two years ago where I live with my husband and three kids —ages 9 (Milla), 2 (Rio) and 2 months (Elle) and have been under construction since day one. We’ve sanded and stained floors, painted from top to bottom and have finally been able to make some refreshing changes in the décor department.

Let’s start with my living room. It’s the first room you see as you walk through the front door, so I wanted to create a more formal living space. I picked up a gorgeous suede couch with clean lines, a mirrored coffee table and a unique piece of art work by a New York artist.  A DIY gold wreath (made out of old Factio magazines sprayed with gold spray paint) bring a bit of grandness to my mantel (not to mention, a cheap way to refresh a tired space).

In my sun room at the back of the house, just off the kitchen, I wanted to create a global oasis. Since travel is one of our top priorities, we decided to create a room that melds our love of relaxation with our love to venture off to far off places. A comfortable slip covered white couch (great for messy kids), my beautifully worn elephant coffee table (for hiding toys) and my eclectic mix of global accessories —Moroccan lamps and lanterns, a Balinese sculpture, a richly-hued horse embellished throw and an intricately hand-carved Jali paneled screen from India, all pull the room together for a unique refreshing upgrade.

Both rooms are very me, a juxtaposed mix of who I am. My love of glamour and my love of global in two of my favorite rooms in our house. It’s my version of my routine refresh to keep things interesting and new on our constant path of reclaiming a piece of Chicago history at home. Want to join in on the fun?
