Bobbie Thomas, one of our favorite style experts, has collaborated with a fabulous wine company, Black Tower. We caught up with her to talk wine, personalities and of course, fashion.
FACTIO MAGAZINE: Tell us about the collaboration with Black Tower.
BOBBIE THOMAS: A lot of the references used in fashion – full bodied, elegant, flirty -end themselves easily to wine. So, it seemed natural to collaborate with such a stylish brand to create a guide that allows women to explore their wine personalities.
FM: Explain to us your color-blocking guide.
BT: With the color-blocking guide, every woman can explore their wine personality; thus, becoming a true wine-ista. The guide allows any woman to explore their wine personality. For instance, the girl who enjoys a cool, fruity and elegant Pinot Grigio is considered Black Tower Wine Personality #1, a hopeless romantic who adores date night. Her fall look consists of a full and flirty skirt, not to mention a style which flatters all body shapes. A signature brooch – with some Victoriana detail or pretty pearls – will complete the look.
Black Tower Wine Personality #2: Always open to inviting friends and family over. Camel is the color for you, replacing gray as the signature neutral in your wardrobe. Riding boots are both timeless and on–trend at the same time, perfect to be paired with a cozy cardi-wrap. The classic – feel and style palette that comes with this look means plush but easy-living furnishings are the key look in the home. When at home, Black Tower Riesling is the wine for me, so it makes sense for this personality type, too. Its richness mirrors the fashion and home décor choices this type of woman should be making, but its refreshingly off-dry and smooth taste means it is an ideal easy-ends-the-day wine too.
Black Tower Wine Personality # 3: Up for a fun night out. For the party girl who is bold and outgoing, it can only mean a spot of leopard! Not content with the middle of the road, this kind of girl will also be experimenting with purples and velvets this fall, and – naturally – Black Tower Dornfelder Pinot Noir, with its luxe, rich taste and heady scent, will be her signature wine of choice.
Black Tower Wine Personality # 4: The free-spirited chameleon. I very much had Sex and the City’s Carrie Bradshaw character in mind with this woman. There is something about her that can seamlessly flow from the Riesling, Pinot Grigio or Pinot Noir girl, or indeed a Rivaner girl – the other look in the Black Tower wine wardrobe this fall. Black Tower Rivaner is full of lush tropical fruits and is ideal for all girls looking for some fun and self-expression with their wine! Out and about, this is the woman that will make even jeans her own with a signature accent, such as a faux-fur trim on either her classic blue or dark, grey, edgy denims.
FM: How would you describe your wine personality?
BT: I’m definitely eclectic when it comes to my “wine personality.” I love all kinds of wine and food and I certainly love to get dressed up, whether I’m channeling a prim and proper Mad Men vibe or a more cozy, bohemian chic look. That’s what’s so much fun about the pairing of wine and fashion– wine can become another layer and another element you can add to your style on a night out or at a dinner party.
FM: If you had to choose one word to describe your fashion sense, what would it be?
BT: That’s a tough question because like I mentioned, I dress differently every day depending on my mood. If I had to pick one word overall, I’d say playful because whatever I’m wearing, I think fashion should be fun. Lately I love to add something whimsical like a feather brooch, unexpected nail polish hue, or pair of printed stockings to an otherwise serious ensemble to help balance it out.
FM: What is your favorite kind of wine by Black Tower?
BT: I’ve tried them all (of course not at once!) and each one is really, really great. Like fashion, it kind of depends on what I’m feeling, but I do have a soft spot for the Riseling. It goes well with my lunchtime salads and my favorite fish dishes for dinner.
FM: You have definitely made your mark in the style sector of the fashion industry, and now after having promoted Black Tower wine, what do you see yourself doing next?
BT: I’m looking forward to an ongoing relationship/collaboration with Black Tower for now. Who knows, there might be a spring/summer guide? Be on the lookout for it.
FM: Who would you say is your favorite fashion designer?
BT: I love clothing so much that I could never boil it down to one name! In fact, one of the things I enjoy most about designers is knowing that there’s a person out there for every single item that comes down a runway. Once you start to look at fashion from that perspective, everything really becomes your favorite. I admire and covet cherished pieces from Chanel and YSL, adore contemporary favorites such as Max Azria BCBG, Rebecca Taylor, and Nanette Lepore, and can’t live without my go to Zara, Urban Outfitters, ASOS and TopShop items.
FM: What is your favorite part about working as a style expert?
BT: My favorite part about this world, hands down, is being able to work with women. I always say fashion is the way we speak to the world without words, and there’s nothing more satisfying than helping women learn to love that language, find their voice and express their own personal style.
