Americano Functional furniture from Argentina

Great news for vintage furnishings connoisseurs, collectors and design aficionados. Andrew Wilder is himself a passionate collector of antique and vintage furniture, as well as the owner of Svenska Möbler, a company he created seven years ago as a result of, or rather an extension of his ever growing sets of Swedish furniture from the functionalism period 1840’s – 1940’s, Art Deco and Art Nouveau.

Svenska Möbler is precisely this: an expansion of a collection composed of original pieces from the above mentioned periods, characterized by modern, simple designs with clean lines, sharp minimal details rendered in Swedish woods such as golden flame birch, elm root and alder. All of these pieces display extraordinary craftsmanship, are hand picked in Sweden and restored. Andrew Wilder is a true enthusiast of 20th century design, which is why his collectables go well beyond the borders of Sweden.

To bring us the Americano Functional furniture Andrew Wilder made numerous trips to Argentina and forged privileged and intimate connections over a decade of travel to finally bring to us the rare pieces. He then enlisted Argentinean woodworkers and upholsterers to restore superb Americano Functional chairs, tables, cabinets and occasional pieces from the 1950’s and 1960’s. This unique and typically Argentinean interpretation of modernism is defined by elegantly sleek lines and is made out of tropical woods.

Originally inspired by the likes of le Corbusier and Jean-Michel Frank, these pieces were designed to provide a practical and functional elegance to the well-educated and growing middle class in Argentina of the 1950’s and 60’s. This never before seen collection is on display at his Svenska Möbler showrooms in Chicago and Los Angeles in October and November respectively. Today Svenska Möbler’s expansion is a step towards a more global look at 20th Century Vintage furnishings.
