The Field Museum Glams It Up With Their Gold Gala

On October 16th, the Chicago’s Women’s Board of the Field Museum celebrated the opening of its newest exhibit, “Gold”. The theme was glitz and glamour as 770 guests dressed beautifully, decking out in extravagant jewelry and mingling with business A-listers like Renee and Lester Crown, John McCarter, and Marshall Field V in the exhibits room with walls covered in 3 ounces of 22.5-karat gold leaf.

The evening started with cocktails and dinner following with packages auctioned off by Bill Kurtis, including a 7 day stay at the Delaire Graff Estate in Stellenbosch, South Africa (complete with first-class tickets and a diamond necklace) valued at $65,000. Guests then danced the night away to the City Lights Orchestra. By the end of the night, the proceeds of this event exceeded a whopping $1,300,000.

The Gold exhibit shows the history of gold, how it was the first metal worked by man, and its relation to high-society. Some of the items being placed on display include: ancient coins, antique cuffs, even Susan Sarandon’s Academy Award for best actress and the White Sox World Series Championship trophy.
