Fashion Focus Wrap-Up

Factio Magazine covered the shows and backstage during Fashion Focus Chicago! Check out photo galleries, video and stories!

Fashion Focus wrapped up on October 25th and ended a long weekend of everything that has to do with fashion: shopping events, seminars, presentations and of course fashion shows – famed designers, up-and-coming designers and student designers.

Locations ranged from the huge Fashion Focus tent at the Chase Promenade in Millennium Park to independent studios such as EnVent and the Prairie Production venue. Depending on the venue, the shows varied from more commercial (Macy’s) to extremely conceptual (Abigail Glaum-Lathbury) to glamorous (Borris Powell) to sleek and chic (Horacio Nieto) to ethereal (Elise Bergman). This variation showed how diverse Chicago fashion is and hopefully other cities will recognize that. Now they can, just check out our videos.

Although the weather was very Chicago, designers were showing their Spring 2010 collections that almost made the rain disappear and the sun shine…almost. So what are we wearing for Spring 2010? Colors were bright at the Macy’s Chicago Designers show, while independent shows as Borris Powell showed us a more muted, pastel color palette. This means different hues of purples, blues, yellows, grays and of course a lot of white. Shapes varied from flowing skirts to tight fitted, skin revealing dresses. Showing skin seems to be in fashion for coming spring, especially in unexpected places. This concept of skin showing geometric cuts were also seen at New York Fashion Week, so get ready for that trend.

After seeing the independent shows, we realized there is a pretty high level of artistic fashion to see in the Windy City. Although people might say that Chicago isn’t as avant-garde as New York, the last weekend begged to differ. We believe it – Chicago fashion is on the rise and there’s no stopping it!
